Information for Players, Coaches and Referees

Leagues

Under 6 (U6) Boys and Girls Introductory League

Divided into a boys and girls leagued, this is an introductory program for children that introduces them to the basics of soccer.  Each child is placed on a team that practices each week with volunteer parent coaches.  Games are played each Saturday at the Middle Road fields.  U6 soccer is to get children familiar with dribbling and shooting the ball.  Games played typically have four players from each team on the field.  There is no goalkeeper.

U7/U8 Boys and Girls Leagues

This age group remains an introductory program but separates the boys and girls.  The program still focuses on introducing players to the basics of soccer but adds new elements such as more formalized rules enforced by on field referees.  Each child is placed on a team that practices each week with a volunteer coach. Games are played each Saturday during the season at The Middle Road Soccer Complex.  U7 and U8 becomes more developmental for both player skills and general understanding of the game. Games played typically have four players from each team on the field.  U8 games add a fifth player who is the goalkeeper.

U9/U10 Boys and Girls Leagues

U9 soccer becomes more formalized as teams travel to neighboring communities such as Hampton, North Hills and others to play games.  U9 soccer plays six players on the field and a goal keeper.  This small sided formula on a small field provides for lots of opportunity for players to become familiar with the game's demands for offense and defense.  It also adds new rules for play such as off-sides.  All ball handling is called in accordance to the regular rules of soccer.  Throw-ins are scrutinized and called if done improperly.  As with younger age groups, each child is placed on a team that practices each week with a volunteer coach.  Games are played each Saturday during the season at either one of the club's fields or at a field operated by another community soccer program.

U10 is a continuation of U9 in format with one change.  Each spring season, U9 coaches select players to play on a Division 4 Sunday Travel team the following fall and spring.  These players are charged an additional fee to participate.  These players are also required to play on Saturday recreation teams.  The team and playing formats are the same.  The teams typically practice briefly each week before or after their usual recreaton team practices.

U11/U12 Boys and Girls Leagues

U11 play is all on Sundays on teams suited to player ability and population.  Placement is determined by coach recommendtion and/or professional assessment.  Each child is placed on a team that practices each week with a volunteer coach.  The teams are managed and coached by volunteer parents.  Games are played on Sundays during the season at either one of the club's fields or at a field operated by another community soccer league who the teams play.

The format for these leagues expands to eight players on the field and a keeper.  This introduces mid-fielders to a game that previously has only had attackers and defenders.  This 9V9 format finishes the slow transition to the final game of 11v11 that starts at U13.

U13 and Older Boys and Girls Leagues

U13 maintains the same team formula as U11 and U12.  The change in U13 is the expansion of the on field player count to 10 and a goalkeeper.
